Bills get B-plus grade for Von Miller signing by ESPN Dan Graziano

The Buffalo Bills caused a stir by signing via All-Pro pass rusher Von Miller during free agency.
Miller, 33, may not have seen it all, but his six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills was huge.
To count ESPN’s Dan Graziano among those who approve of the measure.
Some of the former world leader’s insiders and analysts have broken down the biggest signings and deals of recent weeks. Miller was understandably involved, and Graziano gave this transaction a B-plus grade.
Here is his analysis:
I mean, that’s a lot of money for a guy turning 33 later this month, but there are some very specific reasons to like this move for this team.
First and foremost, after losing to Kansas City in the playoffs two years in a row (and awfully tight this year), the Bills rightfully consider themselves on the verge of the Super Bowl. Miller has played on two Super Bowl championship teams, including the most recent. The Rams folks you talk to cite Miller’s addition at last year’s trade deadline as their most impactful veteran acquisition since he gave their locker room a veteran champion presence that he had not had before. Fueled by a title shot, Miller was a valuable asset to the Rams on and off the court, and they believe he lifted them from a great team to a championship team. He’s definitely something the Bills could use, if he can be the same guy for them that he was for the Rams.
Second, and it shouldn’t be ignored, is the fact that the Bills are trying to get a new stadium built which will involve a lot of public funding, and it’s in their interest to keep enthusiasm for the team as high as possible. It’s not just about signing Miller to star power (although he has plenty). Letting the fanbase know, “Hey, here we go. We don’t just keep getting closer every year” is helpful in trying to make taxpayers feel better about shelling out to help build a new stadium for the billionaires. We expected the Bills to make a splashy move or two this offseason because of this, and this one is splashy. There could be more to come, but Miller caters to a wide variety of Buffalo needs and wants.
As noted, the ultimate title shot and potentially a move related to the team’s new stadium played a role here. Reports prior to both Miller’s signing and the stadium announcement indicated that a big move for Buffalo could be on the way.
To add to this list: The future.
Miller is among the most decorated players in his position in NFL history. The Bills have a very young core playing around them.
If Miller rubs off on guys like Greg Rousseau and Boogie Basham at all? The team could be placed on the pass rush for years to come.
