Earlier this week, it was announced that Kanye West had hired Balenciaga art director and longtime friend Demna Gvasalia to act as creative director for the second DONDA listening evening. It takes place on August 5, once again at Kanye’s new home, Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This second installment in the Mercedes series should coincide with the long-awaited release of Ye’s new album, but we’ll see about that.

The news of Demna joining the DONDA part naturally brought with it speculation. Would he have participated in a revisited scenography, less refined than that of the first event. would he be designing DONDA merchandise ? Would he be named producer on the record, a la Matthew Williams and Playboi Carti? These questions are still unanswered. What we do know, so far, is that Demna already has an influence on Kanye’s stadium wardrobe.

In the IG leak above, which we can assume shows his look on stage for Thursday’s event, Kanye wears Balenciaga head to toe in all black. The absolutely wild jacket, inspired by Siberian bear hunting quilts of the 1800s, comes from Balenciaga’s FW20 collection. The show that brought climate change to the fore via artistic director Nicke Bildstein-Zaar’s flooded track. This might just be a taste of what’s to come for the Mercedes-Benz arena on Thursday. Everything is fine, after all. Floods, Christianity. etc.

Adding weight to the claim that a pair of cargoes will go with anything. And I mean anything. Kanye wears a simple pair of black cargo ships – also from Balenciaga – alongside this trendy jacket. Demna certainly left her mark of DONDA-ere Ye already.

Whether or not Kanye plans to wear the above cut on stage, it’s a marked change from the all-red look that graced the stage at the premiere. DONDA listening evening; a change that might leave some at GAP feeling a bit sore.
