Making the cut: Georgia Hardinge interview on social media content
“I had a lot to do because I had been placed in the middle or almost at the bottom a number of times,” says the “Making the Cut” contestant. Georgia Hardinge on how she approached the sixth assignment, “Social Media Content.” “I was like, okay, I have to win something, I have to do something to show that I’m capable of going to the final.” She did just that, winning the mission and qualifying for the final four. The contestants’ task in “Social Media Content” was to design their usual two looks – a high fashion runway look and an accessible look for the winner to sell online – but there was an added multimedia dimension. Along with their designs, they should record TikTok videos to promote their looks. Although the medium of TikTok is new to Hardinge, she’s “really into video,” so she shot an animated stop-motion depiction of her sculptural design “to see the piece come to life” as the scene transformed. in both of her looks. The judges loved the video, which solidified her victory.
Statuesque fashion is something Hardinge has become known for, on “Making the Cut” and in her career in general. “I wanted to be an architect,” she explains, “but I want to translate that into more business…I want to create something beautiful and then see it directly on a person.” Among the people who have worn his sculptures are celebrities like Beyonce, Lady Gagaand Alicia’s Keys, but greater satisfaction comes from seeing her looks at ordinary customers who “spent their hard-earned money on my piece… It’s actually easy to dress celebrities, while it’s harder to sell it to someone walking down the street. That’s what I like.
