Pulse stars Shantae and Zan shine during haute couture season | Way of life
By all accounts, the haute couture season in Paris was a huge success, and rising stars Shantae Leslie and Zan Hyde made spectacular appearances.
Leslie, the 2019 winner of reality TV series Pulse’s Caribbean Model Search, showcased magical haute couture for renowned Italian design house Valentino in Rome, while it was an impressive couture debut for a colleague from the agency, Zan Hyde at Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris.
Selected from the world’s top models to wear stunning looks worthy of their training and catwalk prowess, Jamaican girls are leading the way simultaneously.
Already special because of the exquisite work that goes into preparing each look, the tailoring is considered fashion’s highest artistic expression and this season’s presentation has been heralded as one of the most remarkable to date. The industry’s most revered publication, vogue, describes the fall 2022 collections as “spectacular! The couture shows featured some of the world’s fashion, film and music celebrities – Naomi Campbell, Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian, to name a few. And as the rave reviews rolled in, high accolades were given to the shows for which Hyde and Leslie had been selected – Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino. The Gaultier collection was designed by the prolific young multi-talent Olivier Rousteing of Balmain fame. And transformer Pierpaolo Piccoli, who modernized the brand’s DNA and transformed it into a billion-dollar company, continues to show off his creative prowess at Valentino.
Hyde, who slid on the Jean Paul Gaultier x Olivier Rousteing runway, looked stunning in an elegantly cut midnight black cropped suit accented by sharp gold stitching hitting every right angle to celebrate a woman’s shape. The belted jacket had a throwback feel to the very angular shoulder pads, channeling a new space-age vibe. The shoes also made a huge statement and were Gaultier style high platform lace up ankle boots.
After her assignments in Paris, including the Lanvin shoot, Leslie leaves for Rome by private jet with the select set of models that will feature Valentino. Strutting the runway on her first outing for the famous Italian fashion heavyweight, Leslie looked fairytale style in a stunning peach dress on the steps of the museum city, Rome. The teenager is no stranger to high fashion and jet-setting as she made her explosive modeling debut when she walked for powerhouse brand Prada two seasons ago.
“It was great to be in Paris for couture,” said the soft-spoken but articulate Hyde, who is studying for her bachelor’s degree at Howard University in Washington DC “Being able to walk for JPG in my first high school fashion show. Couture was amazing, I loved how fierce my look was and I did my best to represent my agents at Select, Elite and especially the Pulse family Shantae was equally excited to take her first steps at Valentino, “I was over the moon,” said the shy teenager.
Pulse fashion and lifestyle director Romae Gordon was thrilled the duo were making such a big impact, especially as fashion weeks are back in full swing post-lockdown. “We are proud of Shantae and Zan; they were ranked first and second in our 2019 CMS TV series. Both made it very difficult for the judges to select the winner as they were very competitive and showed star qualities throughout CMS… . We expect great things from Shantae and Zan.
